Of the 71 riders on the start list at this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials 24 of them will be contesting the competition for the first time – a record number of ‘first-timers’.

 

The youngest first-timer is 19-year-old British rider Emily Llewellyn – Society Spice (no. 89) while veterinary surgeon Tony Warr (GBR) – Coolgrange Merger (no. 77) has the honour of being the eldest.

 

Other British first-time riders are; Ginny Howe – Cavort (no. 35), Matthew Prior – Political Trump (no. 37), Laura Shears – Wulstan Rock On (no. 41), Lucy Holliday – High Times (no. 44), Aaron Miller – Stormstay (no. 62), Penny Lawn – Southway (no. 67), Charlotte Castle – The Cointreau Challenge (no. 71), Angus Smales – Saxon Cross (no. 75), Ginnie Turnbull – Instant Reaction (no. 83) and Sara Squires – Star Prospect (no. 87).

 

First-time riders from other countries are; Emily Anker (AUS) – Balmoral Cavalier (no. 19), Ruy Fonseca (BRA) – Idaho D’Argonne (no. 23), Elizabeth Power (IRL) – Kilpatrick River (no. 25), Sandra Cazaubon (FRA) – Diamant Du Pontet (no. 31), Kai-Steffan Meier (GER) – TSF Karascada M (no. 34), Luisa Palli (ITA) – Axia II (no. 39), Harald Siegl (AUT) – Nebelwerfer (no. 46), Sam Watson (IRL) – Horseware Bushman (no. 48), Joris Vanspringel (BEL) – Bold Action (no. 60), Manon Fournier (FRA) – Ilot Du Grand Val (no. 69), Roberto Rotatori (ITA) – Irham de Viages (no. 81), Bonnie Mosser (USA) – Merloch (no. 88).
