NEW CONTRACTS
FOR BADMINTON TV COVERAGE
As previously announced, The Mitsubishi Motors
Badminton Horse Trials has a new three year contract with the BBC
to cover the event to 2012. Under the new agreement Badminton will
source and produce the programmes.
Various aspects of the broadcasting package
were put out to competitive tender among well established and newer
production companies. Heading the production team will be freelance
TV sports producer and consultant Chris Lewis, senior producer of
the BBC team between 2001 and 2006. He will be supported by many
Badminton regulars including Gerry Morrison, who produced in
2007.
Cameras and facilities will continue to be
provided by SIS Live under the direction of Robin Stonestreet,
while Martin-Bird Productions will provide preview material for
both TV and the website http://www.badminton-horse.co.uk/,
including the popular course walk. MBPtv will also edit material
for closed circuit and big screen on site, produce a highlights
programme for overseas distribution and make and market a DVD of
the event.
Horse and Country TV will have access to
coverage for live streaming and will also broadcast extended
coverage post event from its SKY platform. H&C will also be
responsible for syndicating content to broadcasters and websites
worldwide, including additional programming over and above the
traditional highlights package. The overall objective is further to
enhance Badminton’s reputation as one of the world’s leading
equestrian events and to ensure maximum value for the event and
media sponsors.
In addition a new company to Badminton,
Viewpress, will be taking on the internal distribution of TV
signals for CCTV and Big Screen, providing state of the art screens
and TV sets in addition to the Mitsubishi Electric Big Screen.
Cross Country will be live
on the ‘red button’ on the Sunday 2nd
May 2010 then BBC2 will air a 2 hour highlights programme on Bank
Holiday Monday to include the final rounds of the Show Jumping.
