The L’Annee Hippique award for the best Eventing Event, which the 2016 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials won for the second time in three years, (as previously announced) was presented at the Geneva Horse Show on Friday December 9th. Badminton was represented by Assistant Director Jane Tuckwell and Media Director Julian Seaman.
Julian shared his journey and experience:
Our jolly outing to Geneva started with us bumping into FEI TV commentator Philip Ghazala at the airport; he was off to a show in Spain. On the plane Jane and I were gossiping ‘shop’, when the girl in front of me popped up and said ‘I thought it was you’ and turned out to be Andrea Moffatt of Horse and Rider magazine, who was off skiing.
The ceremony was at the arena which was a minute away from the airport and the arena was over the road from the hotel. Excellent. On arrival we were treated to a champagne reception at Rolex before receiving instructions for the presentation. This happened between the first round and jump off of a really hot class of the top ten riders in the world.
The photo of Jane and I receiving the award is courtesy of Badminton photographer Kit Houghton, who we met up with again at the hotel bar. We then fell in with Rolex PR Rod Kohler, former Radio Badminton presenter Kate Justice and two of Rod’s team. One, an American, recognised me as the front man for the ‘Thrills and Spills’ cross country DVD series… Fame at last.
The circus now moves on. Next stop the British Equestrian Writers Association lunch at Olympia. All work and no play!
