The lower placed 34 riders have now completed their showjumping rounds, with Dani Evans the only competitor to keep a totally clean sheet. She and Smart Time remain on their overnight score of 54.7. They hold the lead at the moment.
Three other combinations kept all the rails in their cups but incurred time penalties; Caroline Powell with Up Up and Away, Paul Tapner riding Bonza King of Rouges and James Sommerville with the aptly named Talent.
Faults were spread around the course, but fence number one was particularly influential.
The unluckiest competitor was undoubtedly Tom Jackson. Waltham Fiddlers Find slightly misjudged fence two, stumbled on landing and shot Tom over his shoulder. A fall means automatic elimination, so Tom will not achieve a completion this year.
The afternoon session starts at 2pm with Nana Dalton first in to the arena riding Absolut Opposition. They are currently on a score of 48.6.
It will be an exciting finale – less than one rail separates the top four riders, so they have no room for error if they are to lift the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton trophy.
