Vote for the Final Fence at Badminton

The three first round judges of the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials Final Fence Design competition were very impressed by both the number and quality of the entries which came from everyone from budding designers aged nine years old through to design professionals.

The judges, Event Director Hugh Thomas, Media Director Julian Seaman and Cross Country Course Designer Eric Winter have now whittled down the designs from over 100 submissions down to a final 10 for the public to judge as the eventual winner.

Hugh commented on selecting the final ten: “It was very difficult to get down to just 10 finalists, which were attractive, original, safe and affordable – the designs were all put before the judges anonymously and happily there was a huge measure of agreement on the top 10.”

Julian who is also a design tutor added: “We should also mention that much as the quality of the drawings was impressive, the overall idea is more important than the illustration so bear that in mind when placing your vote!”

The winning design will be transformed into a fence by Olympic course builders, the Willis Bros, and will become the final fence this year.

A winning set
The individual to submit the winning entry to this competition not only receives the glory of their design being set into the 2017 course in its first year under Eric’s design influence but they will also be requested to attend the unveiling of the fence in April at Badminton’s invitation-only event preview day. The two runners up after the public voting will also be invited to the event.
