Biography
Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo (stable name ‘Walter’), a horse that revels in the big occasion, will go down in eventing history as one of the most successful combinations as they bid for a record third Badminton victory together. They are the defending champions and the only pair to have won Badminton twice (in 2023 and 2025) and Burghley twice (2024 and 2025).
Lordships Graffalo came to Ros as a three-year-old from his breeders. They were second at Badminton in 2022, won double gold at the 2023 European championships at Haras du Pin, France, and were members of the gold-medal British team at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
Ros, who is currently ranked number 5 in the world, came up through the Pony Club ranks (South Wold North branch) and, after reading sport science at Sheffield University, worked for former rider Judy Bradwell producing young horses, before starting her own yard in 2011.
She made her Badminton debut in 2017, coming fifth on Allstar B, the horse with whom she was third at Badminton in 2018 and won double gold at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, US, plus two European team gold medals, in 2017 and 2021. They were travelling reserves for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Ros is based on the family farm near Louth, Lincolnshire. She is married to Chris McAleese and they have two daughters, Ziggy, six, and Seneh, born in January.
