Biography
Boyd is the current world number 2 in eventing, a four-time Olympian and one of the most successful US riders. Although he makes regular visits to the European CCI5*s, this is only his third visit to Badminton; he made his debut in 2016 and completed on Tsetserleg TSF in 2024.
This will be a first five-star for Miks Master C, a ride Boyd acquired last year and on whom he won the Leesburg CCI4*-L in Virginia. The horse was a CCI4* winner with Elisabeth Halliday and was produced to that level by Maya Black.
Boyd has the distinction of having competed at all the world’s seven CCI5*s and won the inaugural Maryland CCI5* at Elkton, Maryland, in 2021 on On Cue.
He was born in Australia, where he competed in skiing at state level (his parents are both Winter Olympians), and was longlisted for the nation’s Olympic eventing team three times, but in 2007 he relocated to the USA, first working for Philip Dutton, before setting up his own yard and switching to represent the USA in eventing. He was a member of the US team that won silver at the world championships at Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy, in 2022 and he took individual gold at the 2019 Pan Am Games, both on Tsetserleg TSF.
Boyd, who lists his interests as boxing and raising exotic cats, is married to Silva, a Grand Prix dressage rider. They run a yard in Cochranville, Pennsylvania and have three sons, Nox, Leo and Koa.
