Biography

German-based Swiss Olympian Felix Vogg (33) enjoyed a successful Badminton debut in 2023 completing in 15th with Cartania his entry this year also. It was a 5* debut for the mare.

In 2022 Felix won the 5* at Luhmuhlen (Colero) the first Swiss rider to win at the level since Hans Schwarzenbach won Badminton in 1951 and later that year the pair was 14th at the European Championships in Pratoni. In 2023 the pair was 11th at the European championships in France.

Felix grew up alongside horses on his family’s farm on Lake Constance with his brothers, Christian and Ben. He competed in Pony, Junior and Young Rider European Championships. Between 2008 and 2011, Felix was based in Warendorf where he completed the professional rider’s apprenticeship, at the end of which he won the Stensbeck Award. In 2012 he won the FEI World Cup title and in 2013 was selected for his first senior European Championships and received the Goldenes Reitabzeichen [Golden Riding Badge awarded for sporting success] in recognition of his achievements. Having trained with some of the best as part of the German Olympiad Committee for cavalry in Warendorf (2009-2010) then with Michael Jung (2010-2013) and Dirk Schrade (2014-2016), Felix became a regular member of the Swiss Eventing Team. He also contested the ’17, ’19 & ’21 Europeans, the World Equestrian Games in Normandy in 2014, Tryon 2018 and Pratoni 2022. He represented Switzerland at the 2016 Rio and 2021 Tokyo Olympics. He has broken his arm on four occasions.

Felix now trains full time in Germany with Bettina Hoy. He also competes several horses in international showjumping.

His younger brother Ben (30) also competes; he also competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio (43rd) the 2014 World Games and 2015 and 2017 European Championships – the brothers were on the same team in 2017. Their Grandfather Roland Perret competed in eventing in the 1956 summer Olympic Games

Cartania owned by Phoenix Eventing and rider is a 13-year-old Holstein mare. Bred in Germany by Gunter Koch, she is by the Carthago son Cartani 4 an international jumper, out of a mare by Clinton. She was acquired in 2018 from Kevin McNab – and previously competed to one-star by Emma McNab.
