Biography

Tom has completed Badminton four times, his best result being fifth on Capels Hollow Drift in 2023, and will be seeking a first Armada Dish (awarded for five completions). He has two horses entered this year, United 36 and Hawk Eye.

It will be a first five-star for the 10-year-old United 36, who was eighth at Bramham, 11th in the eight- and nine-year-old CCI4*-S at Blenheim and 17th at Boekelo in 2025. The horse was previously competed by Max Warburton up to three-star, before Tom started riding him last year in international competition. This spring they won the CCI4*-S at Thoresby.

Hawk Eye also came to Tom in 2025, having been previously ridden by Kristina Hall-Jackson and Nicola Wilson, who was fourth on him in the young-horse championship at Blenheim in 2021; last year, the new partnership finished third at Bramham and 19th at Burghley. This spring, they were runners-up in the Grantham Cup CCI4*-S at Thoresby.

Tom represented Great Britain in under-21 championships, winning a Junior European gold medal in 2011 and Young Rider team silver and bronze medals in 2013 and 2014. He earned his senior flag in 2023, riding Capels Hollow Drift, also the Burghley runner-up in 2022, at the European Championships in Haras du Pin, France. 

He is currently ranked number 11 in the world.

He is from Kent, where he hunted and was a member of the Ashford Valley branch of the Pony Club; his father is a farrier and his mother competed in dressage. He set up his own yard in Kent in 2013 and in 2019 moved to near Godalming, Surrey, with his partner Sabrina. They married in 2022 and have a two-year-old daughter, Hattie. 

Tom has trained for many years with Pippa Funnell, a triple Badminton winner.
