Biography
Irish rider Ian Cassells made his Badminton debut last year, finishing 13th on Master Point, his ride again this time.
The horse was bred by his owner, Bridget McGing, and has been ridden by Ian since he was four. They have also completed three other CCI5*s, including a 16th place at Luhmuhlen in 2024.
Ian, who is currently ranked number 17 in the world, represented Ireland as a Junior in 2012 and made his senior debut as an individual at the 2023 European Championships at Haras du Pin, France. Last year, he was a member of the silver medal-winning Irish team at the European championships at Blenheim, riding Millridge Atlantis, 14th individually.
He has a degree in agricultural science from Dublin University; during his time there he was captain and president of the UCD equestrian club and twice won the world finals of the Irish Universities Riding Clubs Association finals. He is a dual recipient of the George Mernagh bursary to help riders establish a career in eventing.
Ian lives at Newcastle, Co Dublin.
