Biography
Irish amateur rider Lucy Latta and RCA Patron Saint created a sensation in 2024 when they powered up the leaderboard to finish second on their first attempt at Badminton.
They won the William Miflin trophy for the combination closest to the optimum time plus the the SHB(GB) award for the best placed horse sired by an SHB(GB) graded stallion (Grafenstolz) and the prize for the highest-placed British-bred horse for breeder Richard Ames.
Last year, they finished 22nd at their first Burghley.
RCA Patron Saint is Lucy’s only horse at top level and she has produced him all the way through international competition since a six-year-old. He was bought by his owners, the Cramptons, in the Go for Gold sale as a five-year-old and initially produced by Felicity Ward.
Lucy, who lives near Enniscorthy in Co Wexford, works full time for a soft drinks company.
She represented Ireland at Pony and Junior level; she was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2012 European Pony Championships riding Nono and the 2014 Junior European Championships on Cleo Ferro.
Her family is well established in the horse world: her grandfather, William Powell Harris, competed at Badminton, as did her cousin, Irish team rider Elizabeth Power, who is also her trainer. Another cousin is the former leading National Hunt jockey Robert Power, her uncle, Con Power, showjumped for Ireland and her brother, Andrew, trains point-to-pointers.
