Biography
Nadja and Toblerone have clocked up several impressive cross-country performances together, including as pathfinder at last year’s European Championships at Blenheim, where the Swiss team came fourth and she finished 19th individually. This is their first visit to Badminton.
Nadja made her senior team debut in 2022 with Toblerone at the world championships. They were members of the fifth-placed Swiss team at the 2023 European Championships at Haras du Pin, France, and represented Switzerland in the Young Rider Europeans in 2021 where they were 11th individually and the team fourth. Their CCI5*-L results include 16th place at Luhmuhlen last year and 20th at Burghley in 2024.
Toblerone’s sire is the British-bred Yarlands Summer Song, who was eighth at Badminton in 1995 and won medals for France with Marie-Christine Duroy. Toblerone was first produced by Swiss championship rider Doris Weidmann and was ridden to two-star level by his owner, Nicole Basieux. Nadja describes him as a ‘legend’ who ‘loves the job’ and ‘believes he can jump a 7-star’.
Nadja lives on her family’s farm at Illnau in the Zurcher Oberland. Her mother, Therese, evented at regional level and will be acting as her groom at Badminton.
Nadja is godmother to the daughter of Nicole Basieux and her partner, Swiss driver Jerome Voutaz, and, on occasion, joins his carriage-driving team as a groom at World Cup events. She lists her interests as history, films, musicals and lorry-pool karaoke.
