Biography
This will be a third Badminton for Irish Olympian Susie Berry, who was 29th on Clever Tricks last year and 17th on John The Bull in 2022.
Clever Tricks, her ride again this year, was bred in Ireland by Vincent Cousins of Kilcandra Stud and was bought in 2022 from Irish rider Alex Donohoe, who took the horse to four-star level. Clever Tricks completed his first CCI5*-L with Susie, at Kentucky in 2024.
Susie has represented Ireland since Ponies in 2012 and won a Junior European team gold medal in 2014 and a Young Rider European bronze medal in 2015. She has been a member of the senior squad four times, twice at European championships (in 2023 and 2025) with Clever Tricks, plus the 2022 world championships riding Monbeg By Design and at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 with Wellfields Lincoln.
Susie relocated from her home in Co Down, Northern Ireland, where her mother breeds National Hunt racehorses, in 2014 to work for and train with British team rider Piggy March. In 2020 she set up her own yard at Glebe Farm near Kettering, Northamptonshire. Her partner, Max Warburton, is also competing at Badminton.
She is trained by former five-star rider Ruth Edge.
