Biography
British-based New Zealander Tim Price is a former world number one, a three-time Olympian and the winner of five CCI5*s: Burghley in 2018 (Ringwood Sky Boy), Luhmuhlen in 2014 (Wesko) and 2019 (Ascona M), and Pau in 2021 (Falco) and last year (Jarillo).
Tim, who originally show jumped to World Cup level, first competed at Badminton in 2004, alongside his now wife, Jonelle; his record is 12 completions, his best placing being third on Xavier Faer in 2017.
His ride this year is the experienced 17-year-old Falco, with whom he won team and individual bronze medals at the 2022 world championships at Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy. Their excellent record includes individual sixth place at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, second at Elkton/Maryland CCI5*-L in 2024, a win at Pau in 2021 and two CCI4*-L victories at Millstreet, Ireland. In 2024, Tim took Falco on the Sunshine Tour at Vejer de la Frontera, Spain and they won a 1.20m show jumping class.
The German-bred gelding, now 17, is owned by Sue Benson, a former British team rider, Badminton runner-up (in 1979) and Olympic course-designer. Falco was produced by New Zealand rider Jesse Campbell and was started in international competition by Tim 10 years ago.
Tim and Jonelle are the first husband and wife to represent NZ at an Olympic Games, which they did in both Rio and Paris, and in 2022, they were the first couple to be ranked first and second in the FEI World Rankings. Tim is currently number 4 in the world.
They moved permanently to Britain in 2005, based in Wiltshire, and in 2023 moved to the Chedington Estate in Dorset. They have two young children, Otis and Abel.
