Director’s Blog – December 2021

Team out at Huntsman's Close for a little bluebell planting

November saw everything at Badminton starting to ramp up. I always describe the run up to Christmas as being like making a huge snowball and then in the New Year letting it go down the hill and trying to keep up with it!

Andrew and I have had a busy month, which has included various meetings. Chris Lewis, Michael Cole and the usual TV production team have had their first look at the cross-country course guided by Eric Winter (Course Designer). Our Traffic Management team have also been on site, the “workshop boys” (Paul Brokenshire, Tim Salt, Gary Packer, Michael Salt and Andrew Houghton) are back on board working on sprucing up the various equipment and Albert Rogers, who runs the funfair, tells us there are one or two new rides to look forward to!

We have also been preparing for the fact that events/hospitality from 1st May, 2022 will no longer be permitted to use red diesel in generators. This in turn means that white diesel will have to implemented, which will bring a large burden of additional costs. Thank goodness much of the Badminton site is run off the mains.

The Office team have been busy writing to volunteers, processing the trade stand applications, compiling the bed & breakfast list, on which note – please book your accommodation early as it is in high demand. The Badminton Retreat will once again be offering on-site glamping and is taking bookings.

Our annual newsletter has gone out to all those on our mailing list, advising of the Box Office opening in January. The big change for 2022 is that all car and personal admission tickets will only be purchasable in advance; there will be no tickets available on arrival at the gate.

The final touches to the Badminton TV livestream are being put in place and will go on sale at the same time as the Box Office opens. The footage and production will be as previously and full details will be provided on our website via the Badminton TV page.

We are delighted to welcome on board Lightsource bp as an Official Partner. With more than 10 years’ experience in solar technology, Lightsource bp is a global leader in the development and management of solar energy projects. The company’s purpose is to deliver affordable and sustainable solar power for businesses and communities around the world which fits so well into our drive to improve sustainability at the 2022 event and beyond.

I was lucky enough recently to attend the Countryside Race Day at Cheltenham and also the Horse & Hound Awards evening which highlighted that equestrianism is made up of some very special and talented people and horses.

With all best wishes for a very Happy Christmas and festive season. By the time I next blog our Box Office will be open!!
