Biography

German Olympic rider Bettina Hoy (54) and Designer 10 placed 20th at Badminton 2016 and went on to Burghley where they finished sixth. In 2015 the combination competed as individuals at the European Championships at Blair Castle.

Bettina, a former European Champion was for many years based in the UK, but is now based in Warendorf, Germany, the home of the National German federation.

A longstanding member of the German team her achievements include; team bronze at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and team bronze at The Hague World Equestrian Games in 1994. In 1997 she won individual gold at the European Championships in Burghley on the British-bred Watermill Stream. In 2004 (Athens) Bettina almost made history as the first woman to become Olympic eventing champion, but lost her team and individual gold medals on a technical fault in the show jumping.

In 2005 she achieved her first four-star win at Luhmuhlen with her Athens partner Ringwood Cockatoo, with whom she then won team bronze at the 2005 Blenheim European Championships. In 2006 she won team gold at the Aachen World Equestrian Games and individual bronze at the 2007 European Championships and the following year (2008) won the four-star in Pau.

Bettina who trains with Christopher Bartle and German national coach Sebastian Langehanenberg, was formerly married to Australian Olympic triple gold medallist Andrew Hoy and the pair was based at Gatcombe in Gloucestershire.

This year she was appointed trainer to the Dutch national team.

 Designer 10 owned by the rider, is a 13-year-old Westphalian gelding by Dali X (Donnerhall-Lauries Crusador xx) out of a mare by the thoroughbred Conception (a son of the famous Acatenango). He was acquired as a five-year-old from his breeder in 2009 and in 2010 the pair was fifth in the World Young Horse Championships at Le Lions D’Angers and the following year 6th in the World seven-year-old.
