Biography

It will be a first Badminton and first at the level for British rider Emily Philp (34) who is based in Claverley, Shropshire. Last year with Badminton entry Camembert she placed 7th in the CCI3* at Blenheim, 12th in the Bramham CCI3*, finished third in the ERM final at Blair Castle and at the end of the season was the winner of the BE Britannia League – for points accrued at three-star level only.

Emily began eventing in 2000 during her time with the Albrighton Pony Club and with her first horse was selected for the Wales and West JRN team. At the age of 18 she did a stint as a WP with Lucy Weigersma after which she returned to Shropshire to start her own yard producing young horses. In 2009 she bought her own premises and relocated to her current yard at Galatea Farm where she now has 18 competition and livery horses.

Emily’s Grandfather Jim Kerr competed in the sport and was a former vet at Badminton – including the first in 1949.

Camembert is a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. He is by the Courage (sire of four-star horses Duke of Cavan, Cooley Rorkes Drift, Ringwood Sky Boy, Ballaghmor Class) out of a mare by Colin Diamond. He came over from Ireland as a four-year-old and is the first horse her father ever bought. At Blenheim last year Camembert jumped his 21st consecutive showjumping clear round in FEI international classes – he has completed 18 of his 21 FEI events with a double clear. Badminton will be the first at the level.
