Belgian rider Lara de Liedekerke-Meier was the first rider from her country to win a CCI5*-L; she was victorious at Luhmuhlen in 2024 on the home-bred Hooney d’Arville, her ride at Badminton. They finished 14th last year, which was Lara’s third completion, having first ridden here in 2014.
Hooney d’Arville is out of Lara’s Junior and Young Rider mare, Nooney Blue. Lara also competes Hooney d’Arville’s siblings, Kiarado d’Arville and Lalaland d’Arville.
Lara, who also has a BSc in business administration and a MSc in business sciences, has represented Belgium in eventing since Ponies in 2003 and joined the senior team in 2010 with Nooney Blue, being selected nearly every year since. She finished 13th individually on Origi at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
She is currently ranked number 8 in the world.
Lara’s parents Barbara and Guillaume were both event riders and her husband, Kai-Steffen Meier, has represented Germany in eventing and is now the Belgian team coach.
They own Arville Sporthorses and organise the annual horse trials at Lara’s family home, Arville, which hosts a Nations Cup leg. They have two children, Chiara and Arthur.
