Biography

This will be the sixth visit to Badminton for British rider Laura Collett (29) and the first for her ride Mr Bass. The pair was second at Luhmuhlen CCI4* last year – the first four-star for Mr Bass the only horse to complete the event on his dressage score. Laura, who has represented GB at Pony, Junior, Young Rider and Senior level, is based in Salperton Gloucestershire. After a successful 2018 season Laura finished #8 in the BE rider ranking and Mr Bass, finished 15th in the BE ‘top 100 horses’. Laura is currently #16 in the FEI rider ranking.

A former show rider of show and working hunter ponies, in 2003 13-year-old Laura won the Supreme Pony Championship at the Horse of the Year Show. At the age of 15 she started eventing and has been a professional event rider for 13-years.

In 2005 she won British team gold and individual silver at the Pony European Championships with Noble Springbok and in 2006 aged 16 Laura became the youngest rider ever to win an international event when winning the CCI2* at Tweseldown with Fernhill Sox. She has since been successful at both Junior and Young Rider level winning team and individual gold with Rayef in 2007 at the Junior European championships and again in 2009 at the Young Rider Europeans.

In 2010 with Fernhill Cristal she won another British team gold at the Young Rider European Championships in Pardubice where they were eighth individually. Later that year, she made her four-star debut at Burghley with Andrew Nicholson’s former ride Ginger May Killinghurst finishing in 30th place.

In 2011 she made an impressive Badminton debut, being placed eighth with Rayef. After third place at Barbury CIC3* Laura gained her senior flag when the pair was selected as part of the British squad to contest the 2011 European Championships at Luhmuhlen, albeit was  eliminated on the cross-country. In 2015 with Grand Manoeuvre she represented Great Britain as an individual in the European Championships at Blair Castle. Laura trains with Yogi Breisner, Ian Woodhead and Jay Halim.

Mr Bass, is an 11-year-old registered Holsteiner gelding. Bred in Germany by Heinz Henning he is by the performance test winner Carrico, a son of the illustrious showjumper Catoki, out of a mare by the thoroughbred Exorbitant (Exorbitant formerly stood in the UK and was one of the last HIS premium stallions). He was purchased by Laura as a four-year-old and in 2015 the pair won the CCI2* at the World young horse championships in Le Lions. In 2017 they won the CIC3* at both Ballindenisk and Burgham and finished the season with second place in the CCI3* at Blenheim. In 2018 they finished second at Luhmuhlen CCI4* – the first four-star for Mr Bass.
