It will be a first Badminton for German rider Claas Hermann Romeike (24) one of the youngest riders this year. With Badminton entry Cato 60, Claas contested his first four-star at Luhmuhlen in 2015. The pair was sixth at Pau (2015) and last year completed Luhmuhlen four-star (18th).
Class, based in Nubbel, in the far north of Germany, is a son of 2008 Olympic team and individual gold medallist (and dentist) Hinrich Romeike who was sixth at Badminton in 2007.
Claas is the youngest of three children and did not take up riding until the age of 13 as he was more interested in football. Cato 60 is his first horse to take him further than CIC2*.
In 2014 Claas was a member of German Nations Cup team, and was appointed to the German B squad. He also competes in international showjumping.
Claas is a studying agriculture at the university in Kiel, close to his home, and trains with his father. Outside of horses he enjoys football.
Cato 60 owned by Hinrich and Susanne Romeike is a 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding. He is by the famous jumping sire Contendro out of a mare by the leading event sire Heraldik. He was acquired as a four-year-old from his breeder
