After several years absence British-based New Zealander Dan Jocelyn (46) has returned to four-star level. He competed at Badminton last year and at Burghley was 13th with his Badminton entry Dassett Cool Touch.
Dan, who was born New South Wales Australia, runs a livery and training yard near from Oaksey, near Malmesbury, with partner Emma Shoesmith.
Dan came to prominence with Silence with who he represented New Zealand in the 2002 WEG (12th). The combination was previously selected for the 2000 Sydney Olympics but had to withdraw due to injury. With Silence, who was bred at the Mamaku stud, Dan contested four-star events for 11 seasons and after his retirement after Burghley in 2008 Silence was competed at lower level events by British team dressage rider Laura Tomlinson (née Bechtolsheimer).
Dan then competed the full brothers Special Attorney and Special Advocate up to and at four-star.
He trains with British international dressage rider and judge Isobel Wessels and Luis Alvarez-Cevera. He has a daughter, Jaz (12), whose mother, Tanya Cleverley was 3rd at Badminton on Watkins (1993). In his spare time Dan enjoys golf.
Dassett Cool Touch, owned by Therese Miller and rider, is an 11-year-old Irish-bred ISH gelding. He is by the thoroughbred Van Dantzig out of Touch of Cavalier by Cavalier Royale. Dan took the ride at the beginning of 2015.
