Biography
Gemma is riding the son of the 2015 Badminton winner Chilli Morning, the only stallion to have won. Chilli Knight is out of Kings Gem, formerly evented by Mary King and Gemma, and is owned and bred by Chris and Lisa Stone, who also had Chilli Morning.
Gemma has been competing at Badminton since 2007, her best results being third and fourth in 2016 and 2018 on Arctic Soul.
With Chilli Knight she finished 14th in 2024 and 15th last year and was ninth at Burghley in 2024. In 2021, they won the CCI5*-L at Bicton.
Gemma has represented Great Britain since Juniors, including at the 2016 Olympic Games. She won two Young Rider team gold medals on Jesters Quest, her first Badminton ride, and was a member of the senior team that won gold at the 2018 World Equestrian Games, riding Arctic Soul.
Gemma is married to Gary, a show jumper, who memorably proposed to her at the press conference after she had won Bicton in 2021. They live in Horsham, West Sussex.
She also show jumps regularly, competing in the Six Bar and Puissance at the London International Horse Show last year, and has spent this February on the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain.
She is trained by Richard Waygood and Ian Woodhead. Her mother, Marcelle Tattersall, who ran a riding school, regularly grooms for her and has been instrumental in her career, starting her off riding at a very young age.
