Biography

It will be a first Badminton for British-based Australian rider and trainer Warren Lamperd (49) who is based near Newbury in Berkshire where he runs White Hart Stables with his Italian wife Susanna Aromando. Last year with Burghley entry Silvia Warren completed Burghley.

Warren was born in Western Australia; his father Robin competed in eventing and showjumping as well as producing horses. Warren came to the UK in 1996 as a rider for Mark Todd where he worked for two years. He then worked for Blyth Tait before setting up his own yard. In 1999 he competed at Burghley with Bootlegger with who he was 9th. In 2000 he entered Badminton but never got to the event and ‘has been trying ever since’.

Warren is a BE Accredited Trainer and a British Showjumping UKCC Level II coach and has a Master’s degree in Coaching Science as well as a BA in Agricultural Science. His brother Murray who is based in Australia also events; in 2013 with Under the Clocks he completed Badminton and in 2014 Murray was the best first timer at Burghley – 10th with Under the Clocks.

Silvia, owned by the rider, is a 17-year-old grey Holsteiner mare by Lancer II (also the sire of the stallion Limmerick) who is a son of Landgraf. She has been brought through the levels since acquired as ‘an unruly’ six-year-old who ‘deposited her rider on the ground everyday’.
