It will be a first Badminton for British owner/rider David Britnell (27) who is based near Chesham in Buckinghamshire. With Badminton entry Continuity David was 10th at Pau last year – his first event at the level.
David started riding at the age of 13 and ‘fell in love with the thrill of jumping at speed’ although at the age of 18 discovered dressage. David is a professional rider and trainer – he is a BHS Senior Coach and is currently studying for his BHS coach and stable managers and BE UKCC L2/3 – he has a long-term ambition to achieve the BHS Fellowship. He trains with his mother Dawn Britnell (a senior BHS accredited professional coach), John Whinnett and Richard Waygood. He has owned Continuity for 10 years and the pair has progressed through the grades together starting in Pony Club. In 2012 they placed 5th in the Badminton Grassroots Championships, in 2013 competed their first 1* and in 2016 won the CIC2* at Rockingham 2*. Last year they completed their first CCI3* events at Bramham and Blenheim before ending the season at Pau CCI4*.
Continuity (aka Brad) is a German-bred 15-year-old Holstein gelding. He is by the leading sire Contender out of a Mensa I by the renowned sire Heraldik and from the same dam line as the stallion Classic Quainton. He was acquired as a five-year-old by David after he spotted him in a friend’s yard. He was backed and produced by Julie O’Sullivan who showjumped him for a year. Brad is described as ‘spooky as hell to hack’ and David says a neckstrap is an essential piece of equipment. He is however ‘a fantastic horse and my best friend’.
