Biography

It will be a first Badminton for British owner/rider Ellen Cameron (26) who originates from Scotland but is now based just five miles from Badminton in Sherston. With Badminton entry Hanleen Crown Jewels Ellen completed her first full three-star at Blenheim in 2017 and last year the pair was 12th in the CCI3* at Blair Castle.

Ellen, who is from Fife, learned to ride as a child at the local riding school and shared ponies with her older sisters, as a member of the local Pony Club.  Turning down a place at university because of her commitment to riding, she worked at a local yard, before becoming a working pupil with Ruth Edge.  In 2015, Ellen moved south to take up a position as Nick Gauntlett’s head girl, and this year, started working as a travelling groom for Swedish international Ludwig Svennerstal.  Hanleen Crown Jewels is currently her only horse, acquired unbroken from a local yard in Scotland and brought through the grades by Ellen.

Hanleen Crown Jewels (aka Julie) is a British-bred 13-year-old mare of unknown breeding. She was acquired by Ellen as an unbroken four-year-old from a local breeder in Scotland and has been produced by Ellen. Crown Jewels is described as ‘a smart horse, fun keen and brave and willing – except in dressage’.
