Biography

Michael is one of Ireland’s most experienced riders who has been a member of the senior squad since 2003, representing his country at five European championships, one world championships and the 2012 Olympic Games.

He has nine Badminton completions under his belt from 2006, the most successful being a ninth place in 2015 with Ballylynch Adventure.

This is a first Badminton, and first five-star, for Claragh Mountain, on whom Michael was second at Carlow-Lisgarvan and 12th at Millstreet at CCI4*-L level last year and has been competing internationally since 2019.

Michael is originally from Co Limerick where he hunted with the Scarteen. He is married to Patricia, also a top-level rider who has represented Ireland at the Olympics. They live in Bandon, Co Cork where they run Donegan Ryan Eventing. He lists his interests as films and hunting.
