Biography
Irish Olympic rider Patricia (Trish) Ryan (44) last started at Badminton in 2010 (withdrawn after dressage) although last completed here in 2003. She is married to Badminton contender Michael Ryan and the couple run Donegan Ryan Eventing in Bandon, Co Cork. Last year with Badminton entry Dunrath Eclipse Patrica completed Luhmuhlen four-star and represented Ireland (individual) at the European Championships in Strzegom.
Patricia was a keen member of the Pony Club. Aged 15 she acquired her first good pony that she brought through the ranks of eventing. In 1993 she won the National class at Punchestown with her first horse Corran Pierre and came to international prominence with Don’t Step Back, with whom she represented Ireland at the Sydney Olympics 2000. Riding Fernhill Clover Mist she had her second trip to the Olympics competing in Hong Kong in 2008.
In 2009 the couple gained a one-two victory in the World Cup qualifier at Tattersalls with Patricia and her Badminton ride Fernhill Clover Mist, taking poll position. Later that year both represented Ireland at the European Championships and in 2010 Patricia was a member of the Irish team for the WEG in Lexington.
Dunrath Eclipse is a 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. Bred by Michael Lynch, he is by the American bred thoroughbred Chinook Eclipse (Hansel-Northern Dancer) out of the mare Aoife Baby by the Hanoverian Rame Z. Dunrath Eclipse is a full brother to the former three-star horse Cooley Eclipse (Kathryn Robinson) and the advanced horse Completely Crosbie currently competing with Victoria Gilby, both bred by Michael Ryan. He was bought in 2013 from Vicki Brown who competed him to two-star level.
